“REPLETE WITH MALICIOUS INTENT!”
This is how UP PGH Dr. Francisco P. Tranquilino described the Digong Dilaw storytelling of Leni Robredo to school children in Tondo Manila recently.
Tranquilino, a UP PGH doctor specializing in Cardiology and a staunch Duterte supporter on social media with quite a following due to his well-researched political post on Facebook, slammed the vice president for using the little school children as props in the game of dirty politics.
Tranquilino offered three theories why Leni Robredo selected the Filipino picture book “Digong Dilaw” as the material during th reading session.
Theory #3 of Tranquilino’s theory dismissed the notion that Leni was campaigning against the Yellows, opposite of the message the author wants to convey.

ROBREDO’S DIGONG DILAW STORYTELLING REPLETE WITH MALICIOUS INTENT
DIGONG DILAW is a big Filipino picture book for children written in 2013 by Virgilio S. Almario with Illustrations by Nelson Cabrega.
It tells the story of a little boy named DIGO who only likes yellow things & wakes up with the power to turn everything yellow. Will he be happy with a monochromatic world?
WITH ROBREDO READING THIS STORYBOOK TO SCHOOL CHILDREN IN TONDO, WHAT WAS SHE REALLY UP TO?
1. IS SHE SIMPLY BRAINWASHING THE LITTLE CHILDREN TO LIKE THE COLOR YELLOW IN REFERENCE TO THE AQUINOS AND HER OWN LIBERAL PARTY?
2. OR IS SHE SUBLIMINALLY IMPLYING THAT DIGO(ng), REFERRING TO DUTERTE, ACTUALLY LIKES YELLOW, THEREBY AGAIN PROMOTING HER OWN PARTY?
3. OR DID SHE UNINTENTIONALLY IMPLY THAT A MONOCHROMATIC WORLD THAT IS YELLOW WILL NOT MAKE YOU HAPPY, AS THE REAL STORY GOES (AND THUS WE SHOULD SHUN THOSE ASSOCIATED WITH THIS COLOR)? – this being very unlikely
But whatever her real motive was, her reading this book to school children is replete with malicious intent. I believe it was to brainwash her young listeners that they should love Yellow, referring to her political color, and mocking President Digong in the process.
IN THE END, WE REALIZE THAT ROBREDO, EVEN IN HER INTERACTION WITH CHILDREN IS INDEED A PERSONIFICATION OF THE IDIOM:
EMPTY CAN RATTLES THE MOST*
*Specifically, referring to shallow & stupid people and those with little to offer society. It means that, in general, intelligent people, or those who have a lot to offer are less noisy than others. In other words, the saying means “the more you talk, the less you have to say”)
